The ten worst floods in Brisbane's recorded history are:

1 - 1841: 8.43 metres

2 - 1893: 8.35 metres

3 - 1844: 7.0 metres

4 - 1974: 5.4 metres

5 - 1890: 5.3 metres

6 - 1857: 5.0 metres

7 - 2011: 4.46 metres

8 - 1887: 3.8 metres

9 - 1889: 3.8 metres

10 - 1864: 3.8 metres

The figures come from website: http://wivenhoesomer.../new_page_9.htm (see below image)

I’ve made some alterations. I’ve changed the year 1888 to 1889, as it corresponds with the weather bureau’s site. http://reg.bom.gov.a...e_history.shtml

In addition, it rained 841.3 mm in 1888 and 1254.7 mm in 1889, which is further evidence that wrong year was entered on the image. Reference: Bureau of Meterology - Brisbane rainfall (1840-1994)

I’m not 100% of which of the years: 1864, 1887 & 1889 are the worse. I’m ordering according to the rainfall.

A lot of flooding going on between 1887 and 1893. According to the weather bureau, there were four floods in 1893. See also: Wikipedia - 1893 Brisbane flood. In the February, there was 1025.9mm of rain.

The very same areas of Victoria, Tasmania and NSW that have flooded recently, flooded in 1887.

This site has about 50 old flood photos.

Ominous.

1893 must have been one hell of year in Brisbane. Banking collapses, early years of the long depression AND a massive flood. Ouch.
