Coconut palm flooring exported to Europe

2 posts in this topic

This is a good news story, I think? Of course the Easter Islanders found a use for all their trees as well; erect stone heads and it did not end well for them. That said I am sure with thought to sustainability this could end up being a good opportunity for many of our pacific neighbours.

A new process has been developed to cut and dry old coconut palms for flooring with the added benefit of clearing land for other crops.

Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) spokesman Gary Hopewell says it is the culmination of three years research in Brisbane and Pacific Samoa.
